VaultLive Desktop

Getting started guide — secure, clear, and friendly setup for your desktop wallet.

Quick start: install, set up, and protect your wallet

VaultLive Desktop brings hardware-backed security and an easy-to-use interface to your computer. This page walks you through the essentials: download, installation, seed creation, backup, and common safety practices.

1. Download & verify

Choose the correct VaultLive Desktop package for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux). For safety, verify the file signature or checksum published on our official releases page before opening the installer. Verification protects you from tampered downloads and supply chain attacks.

Tip: only download from the canonical domain and check the HTTPS certificate and publisher information in your browser. If you prefer, use a trusted package manager for your OS.

2. Install & create a wallet

Run the installer and follow the on-screen prompts. VaultLive separates the user interface from the secure key storage: you may create a software wallet or pair a hardware device for cold signing. When creating a new wallet, VaultLive will generate a recovery seed phrase — a sequence of words that recovers your funds.

Create a strong recovery seed

Write your seed down on paper using the provided seed card or use a durable metal backup product. Never store seeds in a screenshot, cloud note, or email. Store copies in separate secure locations to protect against loss or damage.

Optional passphrase

For advanced users, VaultLive supports an optional passphrase (a password added to your seed). A passphrase can create hidden wallets and add an extra layer of protection, but if forgotten it can make recovery impossible — treat passphrases with care.

3. Security best practices

Security begins before you ever move funds. Use a clean, updated computer, enable disk encryption, and keep your operating system patched. When using a hardware device, confirm transaction details on the device display and verify addresses visually before approving.

Avoiding phishing and scams

Phishing often imitates legitimate services. Always check the site URL, avoid clicking unknown links, and verify any recovery instructions with official documentation. VaultLive support will never ask for your seed or private keys.

Backups & testing

After creating backups, perform a recovery test on a secondary device or in a safe environment to ensure you can restore the wallet. Regularly verify that backups are legible and accessible, and rotate storage locations if necessary.

4. Sending and receiving

To receive funds, generate a receiving address in the VaultLive app and confirm the address on any paired hardware device. For sending, build the transaction in the app and always confirm the destination address and amounts on the hardware display if available. VaultLive shows estimated network fees and supports fee customization for faster confirmations.

Transaction transparency

VaultLive displays all transaction fields clearly and signs only locally or within the hardware module. No private key material leaves your secure device during signing — this reduces risk from remote malware and infected hosts.

5. Advanced features

VaultLive supports multiple accounts, multi-signature setups, and integrations with privacy networks and Layer 2 solutions. Developers can inspect the open-source tooling and reproducible builds to validate binaries independently. Businesses can use VaultLive with enterprise policies and cold-storage workflows.

Privacy options

Use network settings to control third-party connections, enable Tor routing for enhanced privacy, or disable analytics. VaultLive follows a local-first design — minimal telemetry and user-controlled features.

6. Help & support

If you need help, consult the official documentation, community forums, or contact support through verified channels. Never share your seed, passphrase, or private keys when seeking help. If you suspect compromise, move funds to a new wallet immediately using a secure environment.
